Collecting

One of the things I love to do is collect! I am a terrible hoarder and love to keep anything (including empty boxes!! another story). I also love op shops and we have some good ones around here. Books are always where I head first as I love to read, but anything old that puts itself in my path I am likely to buy without any thought as to what I am going to do with it!!

Butler I also love it when I am given anything old and this book my mum gave me actually belonged to my great grandmother. It is a "new edition" published in 1906 "Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management". the spine may be falling apart but I love to read it anyway. It has glorious colour pictures and unusual chapters like this one on butlers!!Tea_table_2

What do you like to collect?

  1. Hi Gail!!!
I love collecting what others would call ‘old junk’ – I have a miniature hills hoist salesman’s sample, old wooden ironing boards, enamelware, old supper cloths etc, etc…
    Love the blog!!
    See ya!

  2. Hi Gail, I just love that book how lucky are you to have something that belonged to your great grandmother it makes is extra special.I love collecting too, mainly old tins and new ones as well, boxes, green glass, teapots and the list goes on. Then there are those things that are not a collection just one offs like a hahd embroidered white apron, a couple of old cookery books etc. Your blog is looking great. hugs Sandra

  3. That’s a bit special Gail. When my mum died almost 10 years ago l kept her handwritten recipe book. i remember her writing in it when l was a youngster. It’s one of the few samples of her handwriting l have and although it is falling apart it will always have a space on the shelf next to my other cookbooks.

  4. I love collecting doillies, old tins and odd china just to name a few. How’s the painting coming along…?

  5. Hi Gail,I too have a Mrs Beetons book –
    All About Cookery
very old and yes the cover is falling off but it was my dear Mums and I think of her turning the pages when I do. Obviously I was very naughty one day, one of those days when I was home sick and I have scribbed on some of the pages – Mum didn’t get cross I would have.
