  1. I quite enjoyed the Shifting Fog though a lot of the plot seemed to come in a big rush at the end of the book. But it was still a good read. The girl with the Dragon Tatoo trilogy very good.

  2. I am reading house contracts, insurance contracts, loan agreements and lots of other paperwork associated with selling/buying/moving house! ..and the good thing is that all (so far) is going well…fingers crossed for the 30th April! …..once I get settled I am looking forward to some reading time in the winter sun….if winter ever gets here! I have read A Thousand Splendid Suns…..it’s a good read!!

  3. I read a lot of books on the high school level. I am a high school librarian and like to know what my students are reading.
I have read a lot of books from the Best Books for Young Adults list posted on the American Library Association website and a lot of books from the Texas Library Association site. They have book lists for young adults (TAYSHAS list) and younger…Lonestar, Bluebonnet, etc.
Just read The Forest of Hands and Teeth and am ready to read the sequel The Dead Tossed Waves (both by Carrie Ryan). I really enjoyed Shiver by Maggie Stievater, but the sequel doesn’t come out until July.
After Dead Tossed Waves, my next read will be The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.

  4. I love Kate Morgan’s books and have read both of them eagerly awaiting the next one. I have also read A Thousand Splendid Suns which I also enjoyed. I quite enjoy reading novels based on the 1800s in London as well as factual books about the same era. I also love the Jennifer Chiaverini Elm Creek Quilt novels and so many other authors. One book I would highly recommend is The Other Anzacs which is about the brave nurses during WW1.

  5. I have already read A Tousand Splendid Suns. A strong story. When I finished that book, I only wanted to start reading it all over aganin :)) Lately I have been reading two books from the Cuban American author Cecilia Samartin. Senor Peregrini and Ghost Hearts. Wonderful books that I highly recommend.

  6. oh I just love anything by
    Diana Gabaldon
and the elm creek books are amazing
I will have to look out for some of the others in the comments
    hugs Beth

  7. Hi Gail…I absolutely loved The Forgotten Garden…I emailed the author to tell her so and she actually replied…what a thrill that was!!! At the moment I am reading The Runaway Quilt (Elm Creek series) and I can’t put it down (not much sewing going on LOL)!!! Happy Reading to you♥x

  8. I just finished reading The Aloha Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. I’ve read all her books and they’re pretty much all good reads. She often includes a lot of historical information which I enjoy. I LOVED The Forgotten Garden and have read The House At Riverton by the same author. I can’t seem to find The Shifting Fog though. :0/

  9. Thank you Gail for the book suggestions. I promised myself I would read more this year, but am still searching for the elusive ‘can’t put it down’ book. I have just finished ‘Red Leaves’ by Paullina Simons which I found very annoying & unconvincing. So can’t recommend it to you. Loved ‘Angela’s Ashes’ by Frank McCourt. I’m off to add your suggestions to my list! Best wishes, Ros.

  10. I am reading Titanic Survivor, the memoirs of violet jessop stewardess. it is a very interesting book with lots of great historical photos.

  11. Hello Gail, I almost never comment but I am a follower of your delightful projects.
    What am I reading?
Snow in April by Rosamunde Pilcher
I just finished reading her September and The World of Rosamunde Pilcher (coffee table book with lots of photo of her world of Cornwall and the Highlands of Scotland) shes the author of the Shell Seekers, I loved the movie version with Angela Lansbury. I have a few more of her books waiting in a stack (some to be re-read) and another fiction book by Jason Wright called The Wednesday Letters ~ about a man who wrote letters every Wednesday to his wife. (the adult children find the letters after their parents death).
Thanks for sharing your life with us. Hope your day is going well.
    until later…V

  12. You asked what are you reading while you are not sewing – well I mostly read while I sew – Use to borrow books on cd from the library. They are great to listen to while cutting, hand piecing, ironing, embroiderying and doing all the other operations except sewing on machine. And yes I have read “A thousand splendid suns”

  13. I found Kate Morton’s book at my local public library, read it and loved it. I would like to get a copy so my elderly auntie can read it because I know she would enjoy it so it is off to Amazon to get one.

  14. I also loved A Thousand Suns and I am currently reading the final book “Breaking Dawn” in the Twilight Series and nothing I thought I would enjoy but I am loving it. Some of my favorites in the past ….Water for Elephants, The Secret Life of Bees, anything by Anita Shreve, Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. I am also a fan of the website Shelfari for posting your books and finding new ones. Can’t wait to find and read The Forgotten Garden.

  15. It’s so nice to hear of a book that you “can’t put down”. Sneaking in a couple of pages as often as possible is high praise, indeed!
It is so rare for me to sit and READ a book; but I listen to audiobooks every day – while I’m driving, while I’m working, while I’m creating, sometimes even while I’m cooking.
I feel like I have the best of both worlds! I couldn’t give up quilting and stitching and knitting, but those aren’t activities that lend themselves well to turning pages in a book. 🙂

  16. Hi Gail………I just finished Stolen Innocence about a polyomous society in USA……….and yesterday in the mail The Silent Country by Di Morissey arrived in the mail and I went to bed to start it and fell asleep after 2 pages………(not a reflections of the book)….lol……..

  17. Hi Gail
    It must be reading season.
I have read these books and I have to say loved them all.
Reading the Historian at the moment by Elizabeth Kostova. It is quite captivating if you like Dracula legends.

  18. Hi Gail, at the moment I am hooked on Philippa Gregory’s novels of the Tudor era (all Henry’s wives) and now the Elizabethan era, afraid I’m doing more reading at the moment than stitching… I’m not coming down to the AQC this year but will see you again at Warracknabeal:), so looking forward to meeting Melly & Natalie… Happy Reading, love Jo xx

  19. Reading and Quilting – my two favorite pasttimes. A Thousand Splendid Skies is truly splendid, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – also good. I’m ready to start the Girl Who Played with Fire. My book club read The Help – very good, Under the Marble Sky (Historic Fiction about the building of the Taj Mahal) – I liked it. We are just starting Shanghai Girls, and Sarah’s Key is next. Too many books – too little time. I also love anything by Dan Brown and Vince Flynn ( a minnesota author )
    Til later,
    Kim

  20. I appreciate your book suggestions. Thanks to you, I’m on a waiting list to listen to the audiobook “A Thousand Splendid Suns.” I LOVE audiobooks because I can stitch while I “read.”
My local library, here in West Des Moines, Iowa, USA, purchased “The Shifting Fog” on audiobook so I could read it. Now I’ll have to tell them about “The Forgotten Garden.” Thanks!
I’m reading (listening to) “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett. I highly recommend it.

  21. Have you read the Elm Tree Quilt Books? Oh, they are fantastic! I have read 3 recently (in a week, and got NOTHING done!!). I bought the next few, but dont want to start cause I wont want to do anything else LOL
    x Sarah
