Somerhill House

Hi I'm back with my new quilt "Somerhill House" made with The Brick House fabric.

Somerhill4

I love this range and knew I had to make a quilt with it. I have quilted it with perle 8 ecru thread, you know I just love to hand quilt (nearly wore through the top of my finger as I don't use a thimble!!)

I have a couple of copies of this pattern to give away so leave me a comment and I will send them out next week to the winners (chosen using my random number generator, Liam!!!)

I have a lot of trouble coming up with names for my quilts and other projects so for this one I wanted something a little different. I wanted to use "house" at the end but what to call it!!!

My dad is from England and a long time ago when I visited relatives, I stayed with my Great Aunt in Patcham (near Brighton, Sussex, still trying to work this village name into a quilt!!!!)

I google mapped Brighton and looked at all the street names nearby and there it was……Somerhill Road…..sounded good to me…sounded perfect actually!!!

so there you go…weird hey!!

And one more question…….should I facebook?? I have been thinking about it and not sure if I will have time but then again….it could be fun!

Have a great week everyone and keep warm!!

Cheers

Gail

P.S the quilt is at Foothills now and they stock all the fabric for a kit.

  1. Somerhill House is a great quilt – I love the different blocks and the great house you created. Hope I’m the random winner! LOL

  2. Perfect quilt for the house block………somerhill…….sounds tranquil to me…….facebook…..you can devote as much or as little time as you want…….we’ll see it when you update……….I like it for that reason.

  3. Beautiful quilt and I love how you gave it the name. I’ve got a facebook account but I only use it to view my friend’s photos of her life in the UK.

  4. Oh boy!! When I saw this pattern, I thought “Oh, I love this one, but my husband would kill me if I bought one more pattern. Then when I read that you were having a giveaway, I had to think _ “Oh, PLEASE, could I win?!!” We’ll see – but my fingers, toes, arms and legs are crossed that Liam will choose my name. A girl can dream right!!?? Thanks for this chance to win πŸ™‚

PS – I think you should do Facebook. I really like it – it has given me the chance to connect with friends I hadn’t seen or spoken with in years. It was wonderful to get re-connected!

  5. What an awesome quilt! I love the name and the story behind it too. The fabrics are beautiful, and besides the darling little house block, it’s the square-ish flowers that grab my attention. Fabulous!

  6. I’ve “met” so many quilters through facebook!!! Love it! I’ve been waiting for the pattern for this little quilt , since you teased us with the squarish flowers! Really cute!

  7. Really love your choice of fabrics. Blue and red are my favourite and I continually use them in my creations. And the house is very cute.

  8. Hi Gail, once again a lovely pattern and the fabrics are just beautiful. Just my colours!

  9. You made the decision for me… I visited my LQS looking for fabrics to make a table runner I knew I wanted blue in it. Well when I walked in the door the colours in your quilt were staring me in the face, but I came home to think about it, no more thinking the decision has been made!
And your quilt looks gorgeous too!

  10. Another stunning design Gail & I love the name..it really does suit it πŸ™‚

  11. Hi Gail, One of my daughters is in a bumpy ride process of buying a house. I have been making quilts for grand-daughters (two more born this year!!) and she wanted to know if new houses warrant a quilt as well. She has no kids as yet. When I saw this pattern resembling her new(old) little house and recalled the conversation I thought that this would be a good one to make for her. So here’s hoping and thanks for the chance to win this lovely design.

  12. Your new quilt, Somerhill House, is just fantastic. Both the design and the colours in the fabrics. Would love to win a copy of this one.

  13. Gail, another gorgeous quilt creation! I too usually handquilt ( and hand piece) and I think I will try using the Perle thread next time as a few people have recommended it. Thanks for the lovely pic.

PS Should you facebook? Not sure simply because they say you can really spend alot of time on it… something I don’t have but hey, it could be fun. I think you must really control your time, it could be addicting!!!

  17. Lovely fabrics – great design and fantastic name for that quilt! Well Done!! I love appliqued house blocks.

  18. Love it all….the design, the fabrics used and the name!! Absolutely gorgeous Gail. Congratulations!!

  19. The quilt is gorgeous. I like to hand quilt with perle cotton also – gives it a nice primitive feel! About the Facebook thing, you could always just make an account and then when you update your blog you can link the two. It updates Facebook when you update your blog – at least that works for Blogger, might work with Typepad – that way you could see what it generates for you! Hope this helps a little! πŸ™‚

  20. Hi Gail!
Your fabrics color are beautiful and also the way you use them.

  29. waouhhhhh ! what a very very beautiful quilt and “chaleureux” quilt ! The home, the home,….. this is the bloc i prefer; in all my quilts i realise a home, frequently a little home in a corner. also my two girls and my little girl are all in love with “the home sweet home” : i do realise this block again and again; my english is poor and not very correct but i want to say you how i love this new quilt.
