WOW! The year has flown by since The Splendid Sampler started! I had all good intentions of keeping ahead of the game but alas I was a tad busy last year!
I have done about 40 blocks, the last 2 just last week!

thanks for your block Gail, it was lovely. I have a pretty pile of blocks in soft pastels – now I need to do some sashing…
Hugz
thanks for your block Gail. I had great intentions too when this first started but I haven’t been able to keep up! Planning on making some of my favourites in a quilt for my mum next year.
I also had great intentions, but alas took on another job, and ANY spare time has been spent on stitcheries and knitting. I have printed off all the patterns though. Does this count, lol?
I haven’t even started this yet. I’ve been working on a queen quilt that is a gift and spend every moment on it. I am looking forward to do the Splendid Sampler in the future though. 🙂
I’ve got 30 finished so far and another 19 cut out to sew at a retreat next month. In my head I’m searching for a setting pattern that I like.
I started out okay until a couple of the blocks ended up the wrong size or a bit askew…looks like I am a better hand piecer than machinist LOL. I have collected most of the blocks but need to redo the ones I mucked up first.
I loved your block Gail. I’ve done them all and just enjoyed looking forward to what was next. Thanks.
The last year has been a wonderful journey, I have learned many new techniques making 91 blocks so far. My new love is paper piecing.
I’ve made 87 blocks and I’m 87 times better than when I started the sampler. Still lots more work to do before it’s all finished but it’s fun.
I’ve made 81 blocks from my stash so it will be my memory quilt, reminding me of so many wonderful projects that I have made over a long time. What a wonderful journey it has been with so many great people.
Unfortunately I have not started, but have saved and printed each block and all the bonuses. Plus I’ve got the fabric I want to use sorted…monochromatic with a splash of yellow – very different for me
Thank you Gail for being one of the generous designers of the Splendid Sampler. I have had such a wonderful time learning new techniques and have accumulated 110 awesome blocks for my new quilt. I have also been reacquainted with my love of embroidery and managed to start a few stitchery quilts, and finished one for my quilter Mum. X
I, too, had great intentions of completing the Splendid Sampler but got lost along the way. Did get to finish ‘Stitch in the Garden'(my way). Will endeavor to start again at the Patchwork Camp coming up soon. I’m hoping to make a big hole in my box of small pieces-otherwise known as Scraps.
Gail, Even though I am not close to completion either, I truly enjoyed traveling all over the world, reading about each designer.. .their tips, challenges they over come and sharing a bit about their lives. Inspiration came from so many avenues and challenges were accepted many times over! I’ve learned a lot in my skills and enjoyed trying new methods and techniques~ quiltlovefordomesticfelicity(at)gmail(dot)com
I love this sew-a-long even though I am far behind. I have only finished 8 blocks. I need to complete a couple of UFO’s and then I am back to it. Thank you for your block design!
I haven’t started my blocks yet. I have my fabric bought and my three ring binder is full of the patterns, I have the book preordered. I have had a busy year last year and I have 7 quilts in process now, I might as well get started on this one and make it 8 quilts that I am working on. I Love Quilting 🙂
SS was a great way to use fabric scraps and learn precise cutting makes for better blocks
I love seeing all the pretty blocks in the Splendid Sampler. I started with good intentions but have fallen off a bit. This month I intend to finish them. Thanks you
Only 2 blocks to go, Gail. I must admit I am pleased that the sampler is over. Your quilt will look gorgeous! Love the blues.
I’ve finished 37 blocks so far. It’s bee fun seeing everyones version
I’ve loved seeing everyone’s version of the blocks. I started out with great intentions and have printed all the blocks but as with many of us life got in the way. Reading through the tips from all of the generous designers, including you of course, has taught me a lot. Thank you.
I am so excited to be on the home stetch …9 blocks to go! What a great year its been! I have learned that i love paper piecing and applique and my embroidery has improved.
I have finished 82 and have never sewn as much as I have this year! Thank you to Pat, Jane, all the designers, and all the Spenderettes who shared their blocks.
My small stitching group has just start ed this. We are using fabrics from Australian Patchwork & Stitching magazine …. pinks, blues, yellows, greens, purple and cream in floral and abstracts. Haven’t done your block yet but it is very sweet. Can’t wait to do it!
I did my blocks in black, white, grey, and red. I am really happy about how they turned out and have learned a lot about contrast.
I have really enjoyed being part of this amazing adventure in quilting and several of my friends have been making the blocks also. I have done all 100 plus 16 bonus blocks. I love the variety of techniques. I have learned the value of spray starch, scant seams and unpicking when necessary to increase accuracy. Janet in Adelaide.
I am yet to start the Splendid Sampler Quilt, currently working on Lucy Boston and the Insanity Quilt.
Think I will will to start though, before I finish these.
Hello. I’m like you about 40 blocks in using Civil War fat quarters – this is fabric outside my comfort zone but I’m getting used to picking my colours and enjoying the process. Life halted my progress in the summer and beyond but I have been collecting each week the patterns and will make a start to add to my blocks. I have found a love of paper piecing from this great group and seeing individual “takes” on the blocks has been a pleasure.
Thank you
I’ve made about a third of the blocks and I do plan on finishing them! It’s been great fun seeing the different ways people have interpreted the blocks.
Thank you for your participation!
I’ve enjoyed “meeting” you.
I’m NOT in Australia, but wish I had been a quilter when I visited there 20-odd years ago! [I did pick up some great Aussie yarn then.]
Good luck to the Aussie contestants.
Only completed 5 blocks, with one I’m not happy with, I’ll need a do over for that one. can’t wait for some time to continue on this journey, waiting for my book. Thanks for this amazing journey, I just love seeing all the variations in the colours. WOnderful job Pam, Jane, Gail and all designers. Thank you Susan
I’m so excited to do a class next week on FMQ than I can start to put them together!
Hi Gail. What a great experience. I haven’t completed 100 but around 70 is ok for me. I may still make more dependsing on how my 2 small quilts come together. I’m putting together one half for my sister in England and the other half for myself.
Thanks for your block. Do you agree that every single one on Facebook, Instagram and on websites looks amazing?
Di.
So glad we have an Australian designer involved in this project. I am a newbie to the craft, and have found much inspiration from the designs and blocks made by the group. Thank you. Cheers, Chris
I spent so much time admiring everyone’s work before I got the courage to admit I can do this too. So I’m new to the game but I absolutely love your block Gail. Looking forward to putting all new skills and techniques together into a wonderful quilt for my king bed
I haven’t yet started the blocks but have all the tutorials waiting patiently in 2 binders. I just sat back and watched everyone else’s blocks develop. An amazing journey and some very talented quilters out there in the quilting world.
Hi Gail. I finished my first block by Jennifer Reynolds on our cruise. Then made a start on my second one, your block! So you’ve done a lot better than me! Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
What a wonderful journey we have been on. We have learned and practiced many new skills. Thakyou
Thank you Gail Pan for being one of the great Designers of the Splendid Sampler Quilt along! I have had great fun! I am not from Australia, and know I can’t win from your site, I just wanted to say a special thank you!!
I’ve finished 33 blocks and love a good challenge so I plan on finishing the rest.
Thanks for your block Gail – it was lovely. I have completed the project – almost… still finishing off the last block which was the “hawaiian” applique, block 98. I came upon this project through your blog, so thank you. It has been a fantastic journey. A quilter of 16 years can still learn new things 🙂
I have only recently joined the Splendid Sampler group and I’m so inspired by all the wonderful blocks and quilts! I’m just doing my first block. Its a wonderful project. Thank you for your beautiful design.
I’ve done about 40 blocks as I work full-time time but will keep on doing them, I am doing the applique blocks by hand while I watch TV at night, its been lovely to see all the blocks and talk to people from all over the world that has kept me motivated to keep doing them as well
