What do you think?

I am not usually a pink type of girl but I bought these fabrics today from Foothills.  I need to design a project for a workshop and I wanted to push myself to design in different colours. The perle thread will be for quilting and the pink DMC for some of the stitching. The pink ric rac will finish it off. So what do you think?

and just because I have nothing else to do (yeah right!!!), somebody who will remain nameless    talked me into making this quilt with her….what was I thinking??? Of course I think it will take about 10 years but it should be fun and I am looking forward to starting this week.

I am also starting some new projects for a fantastic workshop that I will be teaching at later in the year. Details will be out shortly but lets just say that I am sooooo EXCITED to be going and to meeting some lovely ladies.

In the meantime I have booked to go to Inspired Stitches with my friend Sue. It will be great fun to catch up with all the girls in SA and maybe to get a stitch or two done!!! (not likely I think I will spend most of the day talking!!!!!)

Bye for now

Gail

  1. Your fabrics and ric rac are gorgeous. I’m a pink lover so I think whatever you make from those will be just fabulous ;o).
    Hugs,
    Joy :o)

  2. Gail,
Its okay to be a bit girly from time to time. AND the pink and white theme is so pretty and fresh. A departure for you to be sure but I am sure that you will come up trumps.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.:-)
    DebH.

  3. Oh I am a pink girl and I love your pink choices! Your project will be beautiful! I’m also a Janiac (Dear Jane Quilter). I’m doing mine in civil war repros–and I only have 24 blocks and a few kites done in about 4 years. Ok, so most of those years I’ve had it on hold, but I’m really, really wanting to get back to it. I hope you’ll join the DJ online quilt group. It’s a wonderful group and so helpful and encourging.
    Cathy ♥

  4. Be daring Gail a bit of pink in your life won’t hurt and the beige with it looks lovely, it’s a wonder your nameless friend didn’t suggest RED 🙂

  5. I am partial to pink but it is usually Hot Pink but occasionally will go for the soft and pretties and that floral fabric is very nice. Sue told me that as Saturday is Anzac Day the shops probably won’t be open so all my emails were pointless lol. Have Dear Jane and Dear Hannah Books and they are on my list but probably way down now the list now, I was going to concentrate on the applique blocks but that is as far as it got. I know I paid and arm and a leg for the Dear Hannah, I am sure that shop keeper saw me coming and I had SUCKER printed on my forehead so I should really do some just so it wasn’t a total waste of money.

  6. Hi Gail,
Im interested in seeing what you come up with the pretty pink fabric and ricrac … love the ricrac Im a real sucker for it. I seem to always pick pink and green as my preferred choices. Good luck with the Dear Jane … havent gotten into that myself …. yet??!! Look forward to catching up with you at Inspired Stitches. Should be a good weekend. Amanda and I are really looking forward to some quality stitching and chatting time. Cheers Sue

  10. Love the pink…good luck with the Dear Jane quilt….I haven’t started one and really have no intention of ever starting one….I don’t think I have that many years left! LOL….Looking forward to catching up with you at Inspired Stitches ….you will be able to let me know how many blocks of the DJ you have done!

  11. Love your “girly” pink fabrics and would like you to show us what you made from them.
Have fun with your DJ quilt! Should you need some inspiration for it maybe you could look at the weblog of Supergoof (http://supergoof.web-log.nl). I know it is in Dutch, but she made a wonderful DJ quilt all by hand.
    Have a wonderful stitching day,
    Ineke

  12. The colors are great! I love the rick rack. I bet that will just add the finishing touch! Hmmm….. Dear Jane, you are braver than me!

  14. I do not like pink and am looking forward to seeing what a non-pink person comes up with. Will it be a new handbag. One can never have enough bags!

  15. I am a pink lover and think these look very nice together. Can’t wait to see what you create. ..Good luck on the dear jane quilt!

  16. I’m not a pink gal either, but I do love double pinks. Happy stitching as you begin your journey with Jane. It sucks you in eventually.

  17. I bought some reproduction fabrics at AQC to make a start on a Dear Jane Quilt, that’s as far as I’ve got. There’s also a link on my sidebar to a great blog called “That Quilt” with tutorials for each block!
Love your pinky fabrics, threads and ric rac too!

  18. Pink is one of those colors that is slowly growing on me. I really like what you have picked out and have no doubt we will all enjoy the finished result 🙂

  19. Like so many others, I adore pink. But that soft dusty pink is the best, especially with the muted soft rosy fabric. Looking forward to seeing your creation!

  20. Oh Gail I can’t wait to see what you come up with cos…I Love Pink. I have just cut out one of your bag patterns in pink cos that’s what color my swap partner wanted. Dear Jane is a mammoth task…well done for starting…it will take me 10 years to think of starting…LOl…Might see you at Inspired stitches.
    hugs

  21. I think I love pink so I know whatever you create will be lovely. Oh no another Dear Jane. I myself am just going to watch everyone else make one.

  22. Looking at the line up for the Inspired Stitches I do not think you will get much stitching done either, but it is always good to catch up with old friends. As for the pink if it is too pink add some green to it. Cannot wait to see what you come up with. Wendy

  23. Hi Gail! Your project is going to be lovely….I’m a huge fan of PINK!
I’m also a Janiac…just finished my top in Civil War fabrics and am about to start hand-quilting it!
    You’ll love your journey, really!!!
    Cheers! Mary Ann

  24. Love the pink. I am trying to get myself to stop using florals. I’m not have much luck because there is so much beautiful fabric around.

  25. Simply DELICIOUS!!! And so very springy…..something we are looking forward to right now in the US.

  26. Oh my, those FQs I recently mailed you were in the pink family, I’m afraid. Feel free to do some swapping with them if you have a friend who loves pink 😀
I took the DJ plunge a year or so ago and made some blocks but have stalled and put that project on hold. Actually I don’t know if I will continue or not, at this time I’m not pursuing it, and here I sit with the book, software, templates, and a DJ tote bag for it all. (I usually obsess on things.) Can’t wait to see your DJ blocks.
Wishing you a happy fall while we’re into our happy spring season here ;D

  28. I’ve got my Dear Jane book and have had for quite some time now! I’ve even got the fabric!! I will get to it though and I’m sure you’ll get there much quicker with that ‘certain friend’ pushing you along.

  29. Love the fabrics…and of course the ric rac!!!! So much fun you have going on. Can’t wait to see your projects.

  30. You’ll have so much fun with the DJ quilt. These small blocks are fun to do, even if some are a bit tricky:O) Look forward to see what you’re up to, when you and Leanne is “coming to Town (Trondheim)” in September. See ya’
    Happy sewing:O)
