Tagged

I have been tagged by Laila and I have to list 7 random things about myself.

1. I live in the suburb next to the one where I grew up

2. My kids were born at the same hospital as I was.

3. I don’t drink tea or coffee

4. I dont do dressups!

5. I am addicted to chocolate.

6. I love the rain but not the cold.

7. I hate being late.

Here are the rules for the tag;

Each blogger should list 7 random facts about themselves and list these rules for the tag. Next tag 7 others and list their names on your blog. Leave a comment for each of the tagged on their blogs letting them know they have been tagged and to visit your blog for the rules.

Now I am suppose to "tag" 7 more people to do the same. If you don’t want to play I will not be offended. I tag: Leanne, Karen, Nicky, Amanda, Natalie, Cathy and Sandra and Lesley

A little corner

Corner

Thought I might show you a little corner in my house. The sewing machine I bought from a trash and treasure market for $5 (bargain…) the needle keeper is an old one that belongs to my mum..the wall hanging in the background is one of my projects  that was featured in Australian Country Threads magazine last year..the doll is a design from Whiskers and Wings(Australian designer Phillipa Morris)…the cotton reels are from an op shop..the little crochet tub holds a tape measure.. the watering can is a pincushion made by my friend Melinda…and the odds and ends are from various op shops and my MIL sewing box. They all sit on an old radio that we picked up from a garage sale many years ago.

So just a little corner in my house that holds so much.

have a good week!

Cupcakes

the school holidays are almost over, we have been lucky that there have been a couple of sunny days in between the lovely rain that we so deperately still need. I don’t know how I am going to get up early next week to get them off to school, maybe i shouldn’t stay up late stitching or reading!!!  I have finished the projects for Loxton and will finalise the pattern today, I still need to take a photo but its sunny so it should be okay. That weekend is going to be so much fun, just the thing to brighten up winter!

Enjoy the rest of the week

Cheers

PS did you know that I have been to the top of the world……the North Cape in Norway….we saw an eclipse of the midnight sun…awesome..

I hate the cold!

Have been to work at foothills today, it was lovely to see lots of new fabric. After work my hubby picked me up and we went to get our car from the mechanics. by the time I got home with fish & chips for dinner I was pretty cold. I walked in the door to find that my 3 darling boys didnt have the heater on!!! It was 13 degrees inside and they were all dressed in t shirts, needless to say I went straight to the heater and turned it on HIGH! I have a problem of always having cold feet and I knew it would be a hard job to warm up. Anyway…..

here is a pic of my first friendships garden block:

Friendship1

I am very happy with how it has turned out. I will start the next one in Aug as I have lots of other projects to work on.

For the girls going to Loxton at the end of the month, I am making a smaller version of the bag.. it will be a surprise though so you will need to wait until then.   (now to think of a name….this is the hardest part!!)

Well I hope you all have a good weekend and get lots of sewing done.

Cheers

ps.. I love Twisties…when I went overseas I got my mum to post me some!

(for those who dont know, they are cheese flavoured snacks and I could eat a whole packet by myself!!!!)

school holidays

It’s school holidays in Melbourne and that means sleeping in (I love to sleep late!!) But it also means I am out of routine and find it hard to get going, especially since it is cold (for us 10 degrees C is cold!) I am still thinking about making cupcakes but maybe tomorrow.

I have been working on a few things and here is a photo:

Flowers1

I have paired it up with this block

Stars1

and some other stitcheries as well. I am now procrastinating about how to finish it……it will happen soon I suppose.

I have started the book I bought ages ago "cloudstreet" after quickly reading a few Elm Creek books, as l love to read I always have a pile of books waiting to be read… between sewing and reading who wants to do housework!!!

be back soon

ps did you know…..I used to work at Macca’s…..it is where I met my husband….

An eventful evening

What a night last night at Mrs Martins last night. You can read all the details here, but it all turned out alright in the end. Yummy pizza (lots of garlic.. hubby wasn’t very impressed!), yummy cake and good company. I managed to get quite a bit done on my wedding ring quilt inbetween the laughs, Dianne is THE best at telling jokes.

Sue_and_me

Sue and I couldn’t quite finish the cake it was DIVINE but too much. (something about eyes bigger than your belly!!) A good night was had by all and I think that Karen was quite happy that it wasn’t a total disaster, at least we remembered to bring the cake!  (thanks also to Ray for going into Emerald to pick up dinner) you can also read about it here soon as I am sure Leanne will post as well.

Have a good weekend

cupcake heaven

I decided to treat myself yesterday and went to Borders to buy the Crabapple cupcake book. Talk about YUM!! (I haven’t made any yet but they sound delicious! LOL)

Cupcake_2

and the book is just lovely to browse through! Hopefully this weekend I will be able to bake.

as well as designing and stitching my own patterns I also like to make other quilts where I can just read the instructions and sew. I mentioned before that Robyn and I are making a double wedding ring. Well I have started. so here is a photo of one of the melon arcs (does that sound weird?). I am hand piecing and so far enjoying it.

Wedding

so lots more to do but its a start!!

school holidays next week and lots of sleep ins!! or should I be getting up early to do lots of sewing? It will be a break anyway and if it rains all holidays I can keep warm inside and stitch away. It has rained very heavily over the last 2 days…just what we need.

Bye for now

Gail xx

ps. did you know……I love to read and stayed up until 2.30am on Monday to finish "the runaway quilt"….. now to start the next one!

Sunny Sunday

What a lovely sunny day we are having here in Melbourne. It is still chilly but the sun is shining and I have been for a lovely walk. I have also finished the new quilt but I am still deciding on a name. I find this the hardest part sometimes!! Here is a photo:Daisy

this means that I can start something new ( the tree skirt for Christmas club is top of the list!!). I have also been cutting out lots of fabric for my double wedding ring quilt, that takes a long time but I can start piecing tomorrow night when I am babysitting for my sister. I am looking forward to a busy week with sewing on Wed night, classes on Thurs day & night and quilt til you wilt at Mrs Martins on Friday night. I should be able to get lots of things done!!! (in between talking and eating of course!!)

have a good week where ever you are

Cheers

PS.. did you know…..when I was little I used to make clothes for my barbie…!!

weekend away

Well I had a lovely weekend in Warrnambool with my friend Robyn. We did a 2 day workshop learning all the secrets to needleturn applique. It was held at Fragrant Cottage which is the most gorgeous patchwork shop. I managed to buy some fabric (well a lot of fabric!), I really had to restrain myself!!!

Fabric

I also managed to stitch some of the border on my WIP.

Wip

On Monday I went out to lunch with Melinda, Leanne, Rosalie, Lynelle and Linda to a great little cafe in Belgrave. Oh what a life!!

So today I really should work. I have a few new ideas but I must finish what I have started.

Enjoy your week

Gail xx

PS did you know….. my favourite colour is blue…..(not too keen on pink!)

work in progress

New_quilt

Here is the photo of my new work in progress. I changed my mind a few times but this is what I like the best. The cream area will have flower stitchery all the way around. The finished size is 44" x 44". I plan to bind it in red, however that may change!!  The flowers are randomly placed on each block and the blocks are randomly placed so each quilt will be unique!

I have actually written the pattern already but need to finish the quilt before I release the pattern. Watch this blog for an update on the stitchery.

As I am going to Warrnambool this weekend I probably wont get too much done on this quilt.

Hope you like it!!!!

ps did you know……I dont have any pets (3 boys and a hubby are enough!!)
